Catholic Engaged Encounter is an in-depth, private, personal, marriage preparation experience within the context of Catholic faith and values. Catholic Engaged Encounter is a weekend retreat away with other engaged couples with plenty of time alone together to dialogue honestly and intensively about their prospective lives together-- their strengths and weaknesses, desires, ambitions, goals, their attitudes about money, sex, children, family, their role in the church and society--in a face to face way. The weekend is open to any engaged couple wanting to prepare for a deeper, more meaningful life together in a marriage recognized by the Catholic Church according to its Church law

We don’t belong to the Baltimore Archdiocese can we still attend?

Posted on August 18, 2015

Yes. Catholic Engaged Encounter is an international organization and weekend retreats are happening all over the country. Always let the priest who is marrying you know what you intend to do for your marriage preparation requirement.

What are the different ways I can complete my pre-cana requirement in order to be married in the Catholic Church?

Posted on August 18, 2015

Couples can do three things in the Baltimore Diocese to complete pre-cana requirements. Couples can attend a series of classes given through the Office of Family Life (410-547-5417 for more information). Couples can participate in pre-cana through their parish, this can be classes but is usually a Sponsor Couple program where you meet one on one with another married couple (check with your parish for this option). Lastly, couples can attend an Engaged Encounter Weekend Retreat.

What others are saying

We think you did a great job!  We obviously had no idea what to expect coming into it but have really enjoyed the experience and will treasure the stuff written to each other in our workbook for years to come.  Thanks so much for sharing with us.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide a wonderful and informative weekend for us. Though William and I have known each other for 4 years we learned a lot more about ourselves, which may have not happened if it was not for this weekend.
Elizabeth and William
Thank you for sharing your personal issues with us. It really helped us with our own issues
Eddie and Kate
Thank you for sharing your weekend with us.  While we were initially anxious and hesitant to embark on this weekend, it has been a wonderful opportunity for us to grow in our love and commitment to each other.  We would highly recommend CEE to other engaged couples as we feel like it has brought us closer together.  Your time, expertise and personal experiences have been inspiring to us as a couple and greatly appreciated.  Thank you for showing us how strong a marriage can be.
Jason and Elisabeth
Thank you for a wonderful weekend. Chris and I have learned so much together this weekend. We feel we have a lot of new tools to help make our marriage successful. We enjoyed meeting all of you and witnessing your love for each other
Chris and Nicole
Thank you so much for showing us your love in your marriage. Its rewarding to see how you both focus your effort on your marriage and continually renew your vows and your love, especially through CEE.
Anthony and Irene
Thank you for a wonderful weekend. We were able to really work on our issues, both old and new. For me (Lauren) as a Lutheran who has been very involved in both the Lutheran and Catholic churches I was both excited and concerned about what this weekend might bring. You all far surpassed my expectations by being welcoming, warm and non-judgemental. You stayed true to what the church teaches while being respectful of those present who may not completely ascribe to those views. You walked a fine li…

Thank you for the eye opening weekend. I have been struggling with my faith and have started the healing process with God because of the past few days. Thank you for helping me bring him back into my life

Suzanne, As a mother and expectant mother, I know you have very little time to spare so thank you for spending your valuable time with us over the weekend. Troy and I weren’t forced to go through CEE, however my Lutheran pastor urged us to do some form of counseling. We had a recommendation for CEE and being Troy is Catholic, we moved forward with the weekend. We (admittedly) drudgingly drove up after a long, hard work week in DC to the Spiritual Center in MD, but now are so grateful we did. Thr…

We had a wonderful weekend.  We can not thank you enough for sharing your experiences with us.  Mike and I had time to talk about some topics we haven’t before and to talk more in depth about other issues..  God Bless You All.
